Yesterday was a day all to myself. I also think I found a new Sunday ritual.... I woke up, laid in bed for a little while, cleaned up around the house, called my dad, you know Sunday stuff. I was supposed to see several movies this weekend.. The Happening on Friday ( wasn't "happening") Reprise on Saturday ( can't think of a clever pun for not seeing this one ), So, I thought I would take action into my own hands, and go see a movie by myself. I have wanted to see
Young at Heart for quite some time. I am a sucker for feel good documentaries. The film just so happened to be playing at the cheap theatre across town. I don't say dollar theatre because it is actually $3.50. So I went on a little bike ride to the theatre. They play great indie films there, and they had "coming soon" posters for a lot of movies I want to see. So, it was one for Young at Heart. It was a pretty nice theatre for being the cheap theatre. They played great music over the system. However, It did smell a little weird at first, haha.
The movie was quite enjoyable. You cant help but keep a smile when you watch a choir consisting of the elderly (average age 80), singing The Ramones, Sonic Youth, James Brown, The Clash, etc. And may God have mercy on your soul if you do not shed a tear during Fred Johnson's rendition of "Fix You" by Coldplay. Actually you should probably be shedding several tears throughout the movie or you are probably not human. So I left having a new found respect for the elderly. I have always found the elderly cute in a lost puppy kind of way, but this film will help you take a second look. Even on the bike ride home, I was a lot more tolerant of the elderly slowing down my ride, haha.
I was planning on seeing ASSSSSSCAT later that night at the UCB theatre , but I was pretty exhausted from the days activities. I just decided to ride over to taco bell, get a couple of those new Beef, Cheese and Rice burritos, and enjoy a night in with Roxie and the Sunday night cartoons.
